  1. DECLUTTER
  • Did you know you should throw out most makeup after six months? Go through your makeup, and get rid of expired items, or items you don’t use. You should not open your makeup drawer, and wonder where your lipstick is. You are likely using the same items every single day. If you have some makeup you think you may use on a special occasion, put it in a separate container to store away. Putting on makeup is often one of the first things you do in the morning. If you have an organized makeup selection, you are more likely to enjoy the process.
  • Do you wear all the clothes in your closet? Do your kids and husband wear all the clothes in their closet? Pick out the items you love, and sell or donate the items you do not. Are you thinking you don’t know where to start? Face all hangers in the opposite direction they are normally hung. Once you wear the item, hang the item facing in the right direction. You will quickly see how many items you are wearing in your closet. You can also do this with shoes! You will find more enjoyment getting dressed when your closet is free of clutter.
  • Are you tired of the mail you constantly see sitting on the kitchen counter? Do you wish someone would do something with the mail, then realize that someone is you? Have a designated spot your mail goes. Make sure everyone in the family knows where the mail is supposed to go. Take five minutes to got through your mail each day. Get rid of the mail you do not need to keep. I often scan or take pictures of mail items that require action, or mail items that I need to keep.

2. CALENDAR

  • Put all things you need to do in a calendar. I am a fan of Google Calendar. I like to be able to share calendar events with others. Once you get the hang of this, you can use different colors for different items. For example, I have a color for family, personal, work, individual appointments, and gym time. You are less likely to stress when your life is planned out.

3. MEALS

  • How many times do you order out, or eat a pizza, because you haven’t planned for what you are eating? I like to plan my meals for the week. Each Sunday, I go through and take an inventory of what I already have in my refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. Not only will you reduce waste by doing this, you will also save lots of money! I then plan simple meals. Do I want to cook like Ina Garten? Who doesn’t! The reality is, I am more likely to order pizza if I have a daunting recipe to follow.
